1. About These Terms
These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) apply to all repair, diagnostic, and related services provided by Goffs Oak PC Repairs (“we”, “us”, “our”) to any customer (“you”, “your”) in the United Kingdom. By leaving a device with us for inspection or repair, or by instructing us to carry out work, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
2. Diagnostic Inspection & Fees
A diagnostic inspection is required before any repair quote is confirmed. The standard diagnostic fee is £45, payable whether or not you choose to proceed with the repair. This fee covers assessment of the fault, identification of parts required, and preparation of a written quote.
If you choose to proceed with the recommended repair, the diagnostic fee will be:
- Deducted from the final repair invoice, where the repair is carried out by us; or
- Retained in full if you decline the repair or choose to have the work carried out elsewhere.
3. Quotes & Authorisation
All repair quotes are estimates based on the diagnostic findings and are valid for 14 days. We will not carry out any chargeable work beyond the diagnostic inspection without your prior authorisation, given verbally, in writing, or by email.
If, once work has begun, we discover additional faults or parts are required that were not identified during diagnosis, we will contact you before carrying out further work or incurring further cost.
4. Data Backup & Liability
You are responsible for backing up all personal data, files, photos, and software before leaving your device with us. While we take reasonable care during all repairs, some faults (including but not limited to liquid damage, hard drive or SSD failure, motherboard faults, and issues requiring component replacement) carry an inherent risk of data loss.
We do not accept liability for any loss of data, software, or files arising from the repair process, except where such loss is caused by our negligence. Data recovery, where requested and possible, is offered as a separate, chargeable service and is quoted independently of the repair itself.
5. Inherent Risks of Disassembly
Many repairs, particularly on laptops and mobile devices, require disassembly of the device and disconnection of the battery. Due to factors outside our control — including manufacturer design, the age and condition of the device, prior wear, or a pre-existing fault not identifiable until the device is opened or powered back on — a device may fail to work properly on reassembly, or a fault may become apparent that was not present or detectable beforehand.
This is a known and inherent risk of disassembly on certain makes and models, and is not necessarily a result of any lack of care or skill on our part. Before undertaking such repairs, we will inform you where a device is known to carry a higher risk of this kind, and will always take reasonable care during disassembly and reassembly. However, we do not accept liability for pre-existing faults that surface as a result of disassembly, or for failures attributable to manufacturer design or build quality, rather than to our workmanship.
Where reassembly reveals a separate, previously undetected fault (for example, a battery, connector, or component that fails only once disconnected and reconnected), we will contact you to explain the issue and discuss options before any further chargeable work is carried out.
6. Parts & Warranty
Where possible, we will use new or manufacturer-equivalent parts. Where original or new parts are unavailable, or at your request, we may fit good-quality used or compatible parts, and we will inform you before doing so.
All repairs carried out by us are covered by a 90-day warranty on both parts and labour, unless otherwise stated on your invoice. This warranty does not cover:
- Faults unrelated to the original repair
- Damage caused by misuse, accidental damage, liquid ingress, or unauthorised repair after collection
- Pre-existing conditions not identified as part of the original repair (e.g. a separate hinge fault discovered after a liquid-damage repair)
7. Housing, Casing & Cosmetic Work
Repairs involving the outer housing or chassis (for example, hinge replacement) may require full or partial disassembly and can be labour-intensive. Where a housing or chassis replacement is recommended, we will always confirm the additional labour and parts cost with you before proceeding, as this can significantly affect the overall repair price compared to a like-for-like part swap.
8. Collection of Devices & Storage Fees
Once notified that your device is ready for collection, please arrange collection within 14 days. After this grace period, a storage fee of £5 per day will apply, payable at the time of collection.
If a device remains uncollected for 90 days or more, and we have made reasonable attempts to contact you using the details provided, we reserve the right to dispose of, recycle, or resell the device to recover reasonable storage and repair costs, in accordance with our rights under the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977.
9. Payment
Payment is due in full upon completion of the repair and prior to collection, unless otherwise agreed in writing. We accept card and bank transfer payments. Devices will not be released until payment has been received in full.
10. Unrepairable Devices & Written-Off Equipment
If, following diagnosis, we determine that a device is not economically repairable (for example, where repair costs exceed the device’s value), we will inform you of this and no further charges beyond the diagnostic fee will apply unless you instruct us to proceed regardless.
11. Your Rights
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including your right to a repair, replacement, or refund where services are not carried out with reasonable care and skill.
12. Limitation of Liability
Except as set out in Sections 4 and 5 regarding data and inherent disassembly risk, our liability for any loss or damage arising from our services is limited to the value of the repair invoice, save where such liability cannot be excluded or limited by law (including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
13. Contact
If you have any questions about these Terms or a repair in progress, please contact Goffs Oak PC Repairs using the details provided on your invoice or booking confirmation.
